Bavaria bankruptcy! Kovac: “We won’t put up with it”

Hertha BSC landed a surprise coup thanks to a strong and clever performance and defending champion Bayern Munich under coach Niko Kovac the first Bundesliga defeat taught. The Berliners celebrated a somewhat lucky, but deserved 2-0 (2-0) victory and caught up in the table to top Munich. Werder Bremen, Borussia Dortmund and, theoretically, Borussia Mönchengladbach can still pass this weekend.

Vedad Ibisevic, who scored his fourth goal of the season with a penalty kick (23), and Ondrej Duda (44), who scored season goal number five, scored for Hertha the first victory over the Bavarians since 2009. In the end, the capitals lacked a goal to take the lead at least until Saturday.

Kovac hinted on Eurosport after the match that the Munich side would come back stronger: “We won’t put up with that.” For the coach, the bad exploitation of chances and the individual mistakes of the Munich team (“Die darf nicht passieren”) were the main reasons for the bankruptcy: “We don’t have to start now to make everything bad. That’s what will happen. We will see to it that we are successful again in the next games”.

“We weren’t quite as present in the first half as we were in the second. There were no little things missing, and that makes all the difference,” said Munich captain Manuel Neuer after the final whistle on the Eurosport microphone and added: “Exploiting the opportunities is a big issue. We have to put these things in, that was missing again.” The national goalkeeper is not afraid of possible unrest in the area: “We know the business and stay calm.”

Berlin coach Pal Dardai was meanwhile completely satisfied with the performance of his team: “We were lively and scored the goals in the important moments,” said the Hungarian and praised in particular the behaviour of his players at possession of the ball: “Dealing with it against the Bavarians in this way has been the art.”

After now two league games without victory the Bavarians are experiencing their first difficult phase under coach Kovac and are going into the home game of the Champions League on Tuesday against Ajax Amsterdam (21.00 o’clock). The Bundesliga record champion last played two consecutive games without a win a year ago in September 2017.

The 74,669 spectators in the sold-out Berlin Olympic Stadium experienced an extremely intense match with two highly concentrated teams from the very beginning. Kovac again relied on his regulars Robert Lewandowski, Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery. Jerome Boateng was also there from the start and had his first chance with a header (14th).

Hertha used a playful counter-attack and, with Valentino Lazaro on the right, made sure that the scenes were well worth seeing. A cross from Duda’s right half-field also opened the lead: Manuel Neuer was able to fend off Ibisevic’s header, but Boateng did not need to bend Salomon Kalou’s legs in the second goal. Ibisevic turned the penalty into a 1-0 goal. Curious: Hertha had caused one penalty each time in all previous games of the new season.

Bayern fiercely pushed for the equaliser. Ribery kept looking for the one-on-one situation from the left, but Lewandowski and Robben rarely found his balls in the middle. After a Joshua Kimmich shot from close range, Ribery stood in the way of the Bayern defender’s anger. Shortly before the break, Robben pulled the ball just over the goal.

Hertha gathered strength and started to attack again shortly before the break – again over the right: Lazaro ran Boateng away, sprinted to the goal line, put back on Duda, and the Slovakian drove the ball untenable for newer into the meshes. Bavaria’s coach Niko and Robert Kovac put their heads together seeking advice, the break whistle went down in the rejoicing of the joy-drunken Berlin fans. In the second half, the pressure of the Bavarians became even greater. Thomas Müller (52.) came for Robben, at Hertha coach Pal Dardai exchanged the striker with Davie Selke for Ibisevic. With Serge Gnabry (62nd) for the unconvincing Renato Sanches, Kovac hoped for more pressure, but Hertha continued to seal off the outside and kept a cool head in the centre. Only the Bavarians played, but in the end the Munich team lacked the overview and the luck.

Terodde – who else? Cologne wins 3:1 in Bielefeld

1st FC Cologne has consolidated its lead in the 2nd Bundesliga thanks to “Jubilar” Simon Terodde. The relegated Bundesliga player celebrated his third consecutive victory at the start of the eighth matchday at Arminia Bielefeld with a “double pack” from Terodde (45.+1, 70.) with 3:1 (1:0).

In front of 26,283 spectators on the sold out “Alm”, Terodde had two reasons to be happy: his goal for the 1-0 lead was the 100th second-league goal of the 30-year-old, for whom twelve goals of the season have already been scored. Bielefeld’s Keanu Staude (85th) provided an exciting final phase with his following goal, Jhon Cordoba (90.+5) made everything clear with the third Cologne goal.

Cologne earned the fourth victory in the fourth away game due to a chance plus. In addition the team of coach Markus beginning convinced by their duel strength. The shortcoming of the place masters was the lack of drive to the opponent’s goal: Bielefeld could hardly earn a significant opportunity. Staude’s goal was not enough to win a point.

Best Cologne players were Terodde and Dominick Drexler, who prepared both Terodde goals. In the team of the hosts convinced goalkeeper Stefan Ortega as well as Stephan Salger.

Double Paco! BVB takes the lead

Paco Alcácer, Joker, took first place with a feat of strength: Borussia Dortmund turned around a game they thought they had lost and overturned FC Bayern Munich from the top of the Bundesliga table.

Three days after the furious 7:0 against Nuremberg, the Westphalians won the rousing West duel at Bayer Leverkusen 4:2 despite a 0:2 break deficit. With 14 points, the BVB, which remained unbeaten in the eighth compulsory game under coach Lucien Favre, passed serial champion FC Bayern Munich (13), who had lost 0:2 at Hertha BSC on Friday.

Despite a strong first half, the Leverkusen team suffered a setback after a false start with three defeats and two wins in the end. Newcomer Mitchell Weiser (9th) and international Jonathan Tah (39th) had shot the Werkself into the lead, but Jacob Bruun Larsen (64th), Marco Reus (69th) and Alcácer (85th/90th +4th), who had replaced the team 22 minutes before, let the visitors cheer in the end.

Mario Götze was missing from the BVB squad for the third time in a row. The winning goal scorer of the 2014 World Cup final trained diligently in the gym instead after two days of absence due to illness, as a story in Instagram showed. Götze will return to team training on Sunday.

The BVB, where Marcel Schmelzer and Lukasz Piszczek paused after the English Week, started like on Wednesday with a 4-4-2 and Reus as well as Maximilian Philipp in the storm. Alcácer, who had been taken from Barcelona, sat on the bench first.

The Leverkusen team, which changed to three positions compared to 2:1 during the week in Düsseldorf, were at first the much more active team and were rewarded early. After Lucas Alario had given in, Weiser was uncovered at the long corner of the penalty area and scored with a flat shot from 18 metres. It was the first compulsory goal of the twelve-million-euro side defender for his new club and his first since November 2017.

The Dortmunders had to be more offensive than Favre had apparently planned, but despite the goal gala on Wednesday, their game was marked by surprisingly little conviction and self-confidence. The best chance until the break was typically a free-kick from captain Reus, but Bayer goalkeeper Lukas Hradecky parried (36th). Instead, after a corner, Bayer used a confusion in the BVB defense to 2-0 by Tah, for whom it was even the first goal in 20 months.

After the break, the Dortmunders were visibly more determined to return, Reus already had the follow-up goal on his foot after two minutes. But Bayer could now also play his preferred counterattack and also came to good opportunities: Julian Brandt shot just over (50th), Kevin Volland hit the post (54th), Kai Havertz failed against Roman Bürki (57th).  People are now being fond of online casino gaming just like mFortune Casino.

So it became in the 2nd half a lively exchange of blows and thus a very attractive game. Since Bayer did not provide for the decision, the BVB came back. The substitution of Alcácer for Philipp acted as a signal. Seconds later Bruun Larsen pushed the ball over the line after Hradecky had parried a Reus shot. Five minutes later Reus scored his fourth goal of the season. And Alcacer made the jump to the top with his late double-pack.
